Whitespace have recently installed warehouse equipment for Siemens Wind Power at their new 50-acre Belfast harbour facility for the first purpose built terminal for the assembly of offshore wind turbines in the UK. The turbines are being built for the 389mw West of Duddon Sands offshore windfarm, which is situated 14km southwest of the Barrow-in-Furness Scottish coastline, and will be one of the largest offshore windfarms in the world. Due for completion in 2014 the project is a 50-50 joint venture between ScottishPower Renewables and Dong energy and when complete, the windfarm will have the capacity to produce 389mw of renewable energy, enough to provide power for around 300,000 homes and will provide a major step towards the UK achieving its 2020 renewable energy target. Siemens will supply the 108 machines of 3.6mw capacity. To facilitate their production whitespace supplied and installed pallet racking, heavy duty shelving and drawers, workbenches and small parts storage, and a secure mesh storage area. We just loved this photograph of Siemen’s giant ¾ metre long spanners being stored on Link 51 Euro shelving. Euro shelving can support up 160kg on each 1 metre wide shelf.
